Datadog Integrations: OS & System

Overview

Operating systems and host-level subsystems. These integrations run on the host and read system counters, process tables, service managers, and hardware sensors.

Directly Scraping Hosts

Beyond the packaged integrations below, the Datadog Agent can scrape any host, virtual machine, or container endpoint that exposes metrics in a compatible format — primarily the Prometheus or OpenMetrics text formats. This is the general-purpose path for pulling metrics from a system that publishes a /metrics endpoint but does not have a dedicated integration.

Scrape Requirements

Endpoint

The target host must expose an active HTTP or HTTPS Prometheus/OpenMetrics endpoint (typically /metrics).

Configuration

The Datadog Agent requires the OpenMetrics check to be enabled and configured in its /etc/datadog-agent/conf.d/openmetrics.d/ configuration directory, targeting the specific host IP and port. In Kubernetes, the equivalent is set with Autodiscovery annotations on the pod.

Supported Environments and Hosts

Bare Metal & Virtual Machines

Linux, Windows, and macOS (Darwin) hosts running the Datadog Agent directly on the OS.

Cloud Instances

AWS EC2, Azure VMs, Google Cloud Compute Engine, Oracle Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud instances.

Containerized Clusters

Kubernetes nodes and pods where the Datadog Agent runs as a DaemonSet and uses Autodiscovery annotations to scrape exposed endpoints.

For installation and host-management details, see the Datadog Agent documentation. For deploying the Agent with Kloudfuse, see Hosts and VM Integration and Datadog Kubernetes Integration.
