RUM Explorer
RUM > Explorer is where you search, filter, and visualize every RUM event your applications emit. It shares one query model across eight visualization tabs — Events, Timeseries, Table, Top List, Pie Chart, Stat, Geo Map, and Tree Map — so a filter or grouping you set up in one tab carries over when you switch to another.
Event Types
The Event Type dropdown scopes the Explorer to one RUM data type at a time:
- Sessions
-
A derived concept tying together the other event types for one user’s journey through the application. See Session.
- Views
-
A logical page navigation. See Views.
- Actions
-
A user interaction such as a click or a tap. See Actions.
- Errors
-
An unhandled or reported frontend error, plus a dedicated Error Groups sub-view that clusters similar errors. See Errors.
- Resources
-
A network call for a static asset or API call. See Resources.
- Long Tasks
-
A period where the browser main thread was blocked for more than 50ms.
- Vitals
-
Raw Web Vitals samples (LCP, CLS, INP, FCP) underlying the metrics on RUM Performance.
Filtering
Above the visualization, the Application selector scopes results to one or more registered applications. The facet sidebar on the left lists standard facet groups — Service, Environment, Version, Source, SDK Version, Application ID, Device, Browser, OS, Geo, User, View, Session, and, for errors, Error — plus any custom facets you’ve created. Checking a facet value adds it as a filter; the search bar above the visualization accepts the same filters as free text, for example service=web browser.name=Chrome.
Visualizations
- Events
-
The raw event list, one row per event, with sortable columns and a Columns picker to add or remove attributes. Above the table, two summary charts (event count over time, and a duration/loading-time distribution) reflect the current filters. Click a row to open its event detail panel.
- Timeseries
-
Plot an aggregation (count, average, percentile, and so on) over time, optionally grouped by one or more attributes, as a line, bar, or area chart. Group-by settings let you cap how many series render and choose the criteria used to pick which group members appear.
- Table
-
The same aggregation as Timeseries, rendered as a sortable table instead of a chart — useful for grouped counts you want to scan or export rather than plot.
- Top List
-
A ranked list for a single aggregation and a single
group byclause, for example count of Actions bybrowser.version. - Pie Chart
-
The same single-aggregation, single-group-by data as Top List, rendered as a proportional pie.
- Stat
-
One large number per group-by value — a quick way to compare a handful of totals (for example, event count by
geo.country) without a chart. - Geo Map
-
An aggregation grouped by
geo.country, plotted on a world map; hover a country to see its value. - Tree Map
-
An aggregation grouped by one or more attributes, rendered as nested rectangles sized by value — useful for spotting which segment dominates a metric at a glance.
Each visualization tab (other than Events) exposes a Queries panel where you pick the event type, aggregation, filters, and group-by attributes; add further queries with + Query to overlay more than one series.
Event Detail Panel
Clicking any row — in the Events tab, or from a Sessions/Views/Actions/Errors/Resources list — opens a detail panel scoped to that event. The tabs shown depend on the event type:
- Info
-
Key-value attributes grouped by category (for a View: View, Performance, Event Counts; for a Session: Session, Application, User, Device & Browser); searchable, with a Collapse all control.
- JSON
-
The raw event payload.
- Performance
-
(Views only) Web Vitals and timing breakdown for that specific page load.
- Actions / Errors / Resources / Logs
-
(Sessions and Views) The child events of that type that occurred within the session or view, so you can pivot from a page load straight to the resource fetches or errors it produced.
- Replay
-
(Sessions and Views, when session replay storage is configured) A recorded playback of the browser session — see Session Replay.
Session Replay
When session replay storage is enabled, the Replay tab plays back a visual, video-like recreation of the user’s session: a timestamped timeline of clicks, route changes, and named interactions on the right, synchronized with a rendered playback of the page on the left. Use Skip inactivity and the speed control to move quickly through idle stretches, and the event timeline to jump straight to a specific interaction — for example, the click that immediately preceded an error.
