APM Service detail

You can view each service in your infrastructure independently, exploring and inspecting trace metrics like throughput, latency, and error rates. You can subsequently use these metrics to create dashboard widgets, alerts, and see the performance of every resource — a web endpoint or database query — that belongs to the service.

Using the Service detail page

To navigate to the Service detail page, you can select and click on the specific service in the Services list, in the Databases list, or click the name of the service in the Service map.

The interface has the following information and affordances:

  1. Filters help you to determine what requires your immediate attention. For details, see APM Filters.

    To show filters, expand the filters: click the show filters (Show filters) icon in the top left corner of the page.

    To hide the filters, click the hide filters (Hide filters) icon in the top right corner of the filter panel.

  2. Service selector: click the drop-down and select a different service to see its details.

  3. Click new SLO (New SLO) to Add New Availability SLO or Add New Latency SLO.

  4. Click enable/disable asm(ASM) to enable or disable Advanced Service Monitoring (ASM). See ASM documentation.

  5. Click create APM alert to create a new APM alert; see Create an APM alert.

  6. Overall interval. The default is Last 5 minutes. Click the drop-down to use the time picker and select the appropriate time interval.

  7. Refresh display: click Refresh (Refresh) to update the display.

  8. The Hits chart. It shows the Requests/s (default) or the number of Requests. See Service hits.

  9. The Errors chart that shows Errors/sec (default), the number of Errors, or Errors %. See Service errors.

  10. The Latency chart, where you can plot the overall latency for the selected node. From the drop-down menu, choose the Latency option to plot. See Service latency.

  11. Execution Time Breakdown graph shows the impact of each span type and service combination. See Execution time breakdown.

  12. Click the Span Names option to see the performance of the service by component spans. See Service span names.

  13. Click Deployments for the statistics on various deployments of the service. See Deployments.

  14. Click Errors for error reports. See Errors report.

  15. Click Dependencies to view both Upstream and Downstream services. See Dependencies.

  16. Click Service Map to see how the service relates to services upstream and downstream. See Service map.

  17. Click Traces to explore the traces that include this service. See Service traces.

  18. Click Logs to explore all logs that mention the service. See Service Logs.

  19. Click Infra to see the impact of infrastructure on the service. See Service Infra.

  20. Click Runtime to explore the behavior of the service at runtime. See Service Runtime.

  21. Click Report to review the Performance and SLA reports. See Service Reports.
